Hi5.com has been around for a very long time.
Originally known primarily as a social networking website, Hi5 evolved into a platform where meeting new people, flirting, chatting and international connections became an important part of the experience.

And that's where this Hi5 review becomes much less flattering.
Hi5 Has Some Terrible Independent Reviews
At the time of this review, Hi5's independent Trustpilot reputation is extremely poor.
Hi5 currently has a TrustScore of approximately 1.5 out of 5 based on 37 reviews, with roughly 71% of those reviewers awarding the service only one star.
Now, 37 reviews aren't enough to represent every Hi5 user worldwide.
But the nature of the complaints deserves attention.
Users have alleged problems involving:
- Fake profiles
- Scammers
- Impersonation
- Stolen photographs
- Bots
- Requests for money
- Requests for gift cards
- Poor moderation
- Difficulty obtaining customer support
One recent reviewer even alleged that somebody created a fake Hi5 account using her identity without her permission.
Another longtime user described encountering enormous numbers of profiles he believed were scammers attempting to obtain money, gift cards or personal information.
Those are customer allegations, not findings of fact against Hi5 itself.
But if you're using Hi5 to meet people internationally, they're warnings you shouldn't ignore.

The international component creates both Hi5's appeal and one of its biggest vulnerabilities.
Imagine you're a mature man living in Canada, the United States, Britain or Australia.
Suddenly, an attractive woman thousands of miles away begins showing enormous interest in you.
She's affectionate.
She's available every day.
She tells you you're different from other men.
Then, eventually, something happens.
Her mother is sick.
She can't pay her rent.
Her phone broke.
She needs money for a passport.
She supposedly wants to visit you but can't afford airfare.
Or there's another emergency that conveniently requires your financial assistance.
Stop.
Do not send money.
The Romance Scam Usually Isn't About Romance
A good romance scammer doesn't immediately ask for $5,000.
That would be too obvious.
The effective scam is emotional.
The person first establishes trust.
They communicate regularly.
They make you feel wanted.
They may talk about marriage or a future together.
Only after you've become emotionally invested does money enter the conversation.
That's why mature men need to understand something important:
An attractive profile photograph proves absolutely nothing.
Hi5 Is Clearly Aware That Fake Accounts Are a Problem
To Hi5's credit, the company isn't pretending online identity fraud doesn't exist.
Hi5 now offers an account-verification system that uses selfie video frames and/or government identification.
According to Hi5's own verification disclosure, biometric information may be used to confirm that someone is a real person, estimate or verify age, verify profile photographs, detect duplicate accounts and fight identity fraud.
That's a meaningful improvement.
But verification technology isn't magic.
Even a real person can be dishonest.
Someone can genuinely be the woman in the photograph and still be attempting to manipulate you financially.
The Meet Group Says It Actively Fights Scammers
Hi5's parent company, The Meet Group, also publishes extensive information about its safety efforts.
The company says it uses moderation technology, abuse detection and device-level measures designed to prevent users previously removed for spam, scams or other abusive activity from simply returning.
Again, that's positive.
But the continuing complaints demonstrate the larger problem facing virtually every large social and dating network:
Moderators have to catch scammers. Scammers only have to find one victim.
International Online Dating Has a Fundamental Weakness
This brings us to something bigger than Hi5.
Suppose every profile you encounter is genuine.
You still have another problem.
You're sitting in Toronto.
She's in Colombia, the Philippines, Thailand, Costa Rica, Ukraine, Peru or another country.
You can message.
You can video chat.
You can exchange photographs.
You can fall completely in love online.
But eventually somebody has to answer the question:
When are we actually going to meet?
Mature Men Should Stop Making Online Chatting the Destination
This is why I believe mature men interested in international dating should consider a completely different model.
Use the internet for introductions.
Then date in the real world.

Final Hi5.com Review: Scam or Legit?
I would not call Hi5.com itself a scam based on the evidence I found.
It is a real social platform with verification technology, published moderation policies and safety systems designed specifically to combat bots, scams and identity fraud.
However, Hi5 currently has an extremely poor independent-review reputation, and multiple users have reported encountering fake profiles, impersonators, spam and people allegedly attempting to obtain money or gift cards.
Those complaints are serious enough that I would use Hi5 cautiously, particularly for international dating.
Never send money to someone merely because you've developed an online romantic connection.
And for mature western men, I think there's an even bigger lesson.
If online international dating keeps producing scammers, endless messages, uncertainty and relationships that never leave your computer screen, change the model.
Consider an international introduction service built around eventually meeting women face-to-face.
